Dade put his sketchpad away as the door opened. Veda slipped in, clutching her teddy bear. Her ginger hair was messy and tangled. She cuddled up to him sleepily. He wrapped an arm around her as he heard his father's voice raise. A ringing slap echoed through the house and his sister whimpered. "It's alright." He soothed. "It's gonna be ok."
